Villach is a large city in Carinthia
in the south of Austria, situated on the river Drave near its
confluence with the river Gail, in a broad fertile basin at the
foot of the Dobratsch or Villacher Alp. Some of the prettiest
Carinthian lakes are to be found near Villach including Lake
Ossiach, Lake Faak, Silbersee, Vassacher See, Magdalensee and
St. Leonharder See. Villach is surrounded by the mountains of
the Alps. Its principal industry is the fabrication of various
lead wares and is mostly dependent on the lead mines of Bleiberg,
a town situated about 5 kms to the west. |
